In the early 1960’s Geoffrey Lines was chopping off cuts of wood into kindling from a farm in Eaton Bray, Dunstable to sell in his greengrocer shop in Luton. The demand for kindling and wood products grew rapidly and in 1963 GD lines was established in Cauldwell Walk, Bedford.

By the mid 1970’s Geoffrey’s son, Roger, joined the family business and the company was renamed GD Lines & Son.

In 1979 the first Stenner re-saw was installed to machine timber into fencing panels, garden sheds and gates.

By 1981 the demand for timber as we know it today was more popular than fencing producers so Bedford Timber Supplies Ltd was launched, leaving GD lines & Son to trade for the next few years selling reclaimed slates and tiles.

Today Bedford Timber Supplies is directed by Geoffrey’s children, Roger and June. June has worked for the company since 1971. Roger’s wife who came into the family business in 1972 as his financial and personal assistant.

To continue the family business, Roger and Liz’s three children are now key roles within the company.

For more than 30 years Bedford Timber Supplies has aimed to try and supply timber and building products to the major construction company down to the local DIY person.

With our knowledgeable staff driving forwards the business a lot has happened since 1962, but Geoffrey’s ambition to supply and deliver expertise to all that walked through his door is still at the forefront of Bedford Timber Supplies today.

What Bedford Timber Supplies doesn’t know about wood isn’t worth knowing about.
