The 18th Annual Polypipe Charity Sailing Regatta was held on Wednesday 7th September 2016.
The Regatta, aimed at non-sailors and experienced sailors alike, was held by Polypipe with the intention for everyone to experience an enjoyable day on the water with some not too serious racing whilst raising money for worthwhile charities.
The morning of the regatta started at 7.45 a.m. with breakfast at the Portsmouth Harbour Yacht Club. Competitors then made their way to the pontoon where their yachts were moored. We kitted up and had our on-board safety briefing followed by an hour and a half of learning to sail, remembering how to sail or general sailing practice. The action then began with the first race, with the second taking place after we broke for lunch.
Upon return, the fleet headed to the Yacht Club for tea, cakes, prize giving, the charity raffle and of course the odd beer.
Sales Manager Matt Barratt who attended the event said “My sailing abilities are very limited but I really enjoyed the day. Conditions were perfect for sailing and I was glad to be a part of a well organised charity event. I’d like to thank Arbor Forest Products LTD for inviting me along and Polypipe for organising the event.”
