Bedford Timber Supplies stock large volumes of planed joinery softwood, principally from Scandinavia with a selected range from Europe. These high-quality, slow-grown timbers are ideal for planing and machining as they can be used for numerous purposes.
Planed Timber Quality
This is the lowest grade in planed timber that Bedford Timber Supplies stock. Whitewood is a good option when lengths are required to be wider than 220mm. Suitable for stair strings, treads and making of book cases, Whitewood is prone to larger knots and surface splits.
The next grade, a more multi-purpose grade, has a huge variety of uses. The bulk of Bedford Timber Supplies PSE and mouldings are machined from 5th Grade. 5th Grade is typically used for cladding, flooring, skirting, architraves, dado rail and has many other uses. 5th Grade joinery still maintains the smooth finish of unsorted but has a slightly higher knot content.
This is the highest quality of joinery softwood where the lower grades have been removed (sorted). Unsorted joinery is mainly used where the visible finish is of paramount importance. Unsorted joinery has a low knot content with a straight grain and smooth finish.
