Sustainability is fundamental to us here at Bedford Timber, especially regarding our timber products. We hold the two main certificates for Chain of Custody: FSC® (FSC-C102284) and PEFC (PEFC/16-37-1648). But what do these entail?
The Forest Stewardship Council®
The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is an international non-profit organisation dedicated to promoting responsible management of the world’s forests. Since it was founded in 1994, FSC has grown to have the most extensive certified supply chain network. Its pioneering certification system, covering more than 150 million hectares of forest, enables businesses and consumers to choose wood, paper and other forest products made with materials that support responsible forestry.

Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification
The Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) is an international non-profit, non-governmental organisation dedicated to promoting sustainable forest management worldwide. Since its establishment in 1999, PEFC has grown into the world’s largest forest certification system, ensuring that over 330 million hectares of forest are managed sustainably. Through its rigorous certification standards, PEFC enables businesses and consumers to make responsible choices, supporting the use of wood, paper, and other forest products that contribute to the long-term health of forests and the communities that depend on them.

Partnering for Sustainable Forestry
FSC and PEFC work together to safeguard the world’s forests and the environment. Through their complementary certification systems, they ensure forest products are responsibly sourced, managed, and tracked. By enabling businesses and consumers to make sustainable choices, FSC and PEFC play a critical role in preserving ecosystems and promoting responsible forestry on a global scale.
